$20,000 annually if you’re married, plus $5000 with your income tax refund (make an “estimated” overpayment to do this).

If you need to put away more than $25k of cash equivalents per year, you can still do Treasuries or whatever but I Bonds are an excellent deal.

Zero coupon bonds are bonds that do not pay interest during the life of the bonds. Instead, investors buy zero coupon bonds at a deep discount from their face value, which is the amount the investor will receive when the bond "matures" or comes due.

ngga this is variable rate so it cld go down

KEY FACTS: I Bonds can be purchased through October 2022 at the current rate. That rate is applied to the 6 months after the purchase is made. For example, if you buy an I bond on July 1, 2022, the 9.62% would be applied through December 31, 2022. Interest is compounded semi-annually.

A Series I savings bond is a security that earns interest based on both a fixed rate and a rate that is set twice a year based on inflation. The bond earns interest until it reaches 30 years or you cash it, whichever comes first.

It adjusts every 6 months based on inflation. It’s going to be ~9% for at least a year for bonds bought today (we know this because we know most of the pricing inputs that will go into the October reprice). Beyond that, it can’t go negative.

How long is your 2.5% CD for?

Yes, if you withdraw after a year you lose 3 months of interest, meaning that you collected “only” 7% or so interest for the year.

This is incorrect. You can’t withdraw during the first year. You lose, I think, 3 months of interest is you withdraw during the first five years.
