Chicago didn't used to use the Common App. Instead they used their notorious "Uncommon Application" that was extremely long and had a bunch of weird essay questions. The objective was to make it super annoying to apply to Chicago so that only people who were genuinely serious about the school bothered to apply. But they eventually scrapped that and switched to the Common App. That led to a spike in their USNWR ranking because their acceptance rate went from like 50% to 5%. I don't think this is true. Other than Harvard, it is probably the most referenced college in pop culture. Look at the list of dream colleges for kids - its #4.

I wouldn't send my kid there but every single person on TV is sending their kid there (both because of its film school and because it makes for a good plot point as the parent has to grapple with sending kids to a school that is expensive, far, and a huge cultural change). |
