Kherson, moreover, leads to Crimea. Invaded and annexed by Moscow in 2014, Crimea has long been in the crosshairs of the Ukrainians. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his government have stated that an acceptable end to the war would have Crimea in Ukrainian hands once more.

But in this case the objective was already unobtainable. The fact that Ukrainians occupy this city is not actually decisive of anything except whether Ukrainians are there right now. It doesn't tilt the outcome of the war because Russia was never in position to take Odessa. Russia didn't even have a strategy for taking Odeasa, at least not by force.
Were you delusional about this all summer? Did you think Russia was going to use this as a staging ground to bum rush Odessa? Have you even seen a shrink bro? |
