A condition of PPP was that you could not retire. Like, the entire program was "keep running your business." And it was two months of payroll.

I didn't say there wasn't fraud. I mainly don't think 10 weeks of payroll is sufficient for early retirement even if you were doing fraud. And if you weren't doing fraud, the money went out the door anyway.

professionally i dealt with ppp fraud for like two years. the depths of it are deeper than most people realize. on it's face it's a fraudulent program. but even ignoring the funds that went to legitimate borrowers, billions were just straight up defrauded.

but sure law firms that had banner years get maxed out ppp money and that's a good thing because...? they had the money to pay payroll and would not have been adversely affected. tons of businesses got gigantic windfalls yet people gnash their teeth about $1200 checks and student loan forgiveness.

Yep. I know at the law firm that I was at that took ppp, firm profits were never down, the law firm didn’t even physically close a single day, and maintained a very strict in person attendance policy for all lawyers and staff. They did, however, cater in lunches.

That year the owners got the ppp “loan” forgiven and distributed the excess to themselves as they do every year with what’s left in the operating account.

your last point is flimsy.

the $1200 checks are different because they went to everyone so we all shared in the bullshit.

the student loan forgiveness is worse because it doesn't even have a basis in reality.

the ppp loans are more complicated. their purpose is not necessarily bullshit, but the parameters were terrible and the fraud predictable. they need investigations and incarcerations. a lot of both. neither apply to the former and it does make a difference.

Say you give them the notion that climate change is a problem. It's a really hrd problem, and this cabal of dumbfuck losers cannot even give money to people who legally deserve it.

dude people got millions in ppp creating fake business licenses and saying they are a sole proprietorship. people that bought or had already owned companies with a FEIN had it even easier.

plenty of 90iq retards just walked in, lied about their payroll (they didn't even own a business), got a ton of $$$, and disappeared.

people really don't understand the depth of this fraud. it's really telling how many people are lisping "but muh 2.5 months of payroll!" there were no adequate systems in place to verify this and they gave the money out like candy to anyone that applied.

yes, there was tons of outright fraud. there was also tons of within-the-letter-of-the-law fraud, which is, e.g., what all the law firms did. we need to make clear which fraud we're talking about. an actual restaurant getting legitimate ppp money and then pocketing the money is the latter, and that's not enough for retirement.

fair enough.

yeah, the "within-the-letter-of-the-law fraud" was not really enough for early retirement (although i bet for some it pushed them over the line). either way, it was a massive windfall to many businesses who didn't need it (perhaps not of a windfall for retirement) along with being poorly-administered and rife with fraud-fraud.

tbf, the within-the-letter-of-the-law fraud was a small rebate for ppl who have been raped for decades by high taxes and got nothing for it in return. it's only the wagecucks who couldn't get in on this who are maf about this.

lots and lots of ppp was reaped up by businesses owned by wealthy people (e.g. tom brady's nut company). plenty of people that were smart enough to organize as multiple entities got to reap loads of ppp.

ime the restaurants and mom and pops still got ratfucked. they get 2.5months of ppp while their shitlib cities shutdown for 2 years. meanwhile law firms, et al with plenty of wealthy partners got a windfall despite record profits.

wagecucks should be maf but this was still a huge wealth transfer to the wealthy, despite the fact that some small biz types got a crumb of it.

I think he’s assuming none of it went to employees but observing that a windfall equal to the amount of 2.5 months of your payroll isn’t going to be enough to retire unless maybe you do a money mustache and burn your kids for heat and eat used coffee filters instead of food.

Right. I mean there was lots of fraud with this program but nobody pocketed the money and sailed to early retirement.

Any business that got millions was a huge outfit that wasn’t going to just fold up shop. Maybe I’m wrong but I highly doubt it.

I doubt there’s ever been a govt program where people didn’t figure out a way to defraud fairly quickly.

I think ppp is not likely one where you’ll find many examples of someone totally raping the system for millions. There have got to be much better (worse?) examples of this.

i can tell you for a fact that many people did

there were gigantic fraud rings where they'd get retards to get huge ppp checks and then mail it off to them. we're talking tens of millions. and this happened all the time. the doj hasn't even been scratching the surface on this and only the most blatant fraudsters have been caught. people who engaged in more sophisticated fraud will likely never be identified because the number of blantant fraudsters is already overwhelming.

it's a windfall if you ultimately didn't need the money.

as i understand it, you just have to say you need the payroll money but when it turns out you actually didn't, you're fine

it's only when you say you need the payroll money, but then don't use it for payroll that you get into trouble.

when you use it for payroll, all of the gross income you have coming in that otherwise would have been used for payroll is the owner's outright. windfall and no crime.

this has to be the most retarded thread in some time. PPP was a forgivable LOAN. if you didnt spend 70%+ on wages etc you had to pay it back. if you closed you had to pay it back. if you fucked up the other conditions you had to pay it back.

yeah lots of fraud but fucking random actual business owners just retiring on a forgivable loan?

hello, the OP said restaurant owners. my post acknowledged there was fraud, but individual eatery owners were not retiring off of this.

500k payroll for what? 12 weeks? thats a hell of a restaurant.

i really dont know why you are so mad. my solo practice took 23k and it did not adequately compensate me for having the government close the nation for 2+ months.

i guess i'm just sperging about ppp generally than taking "restaurant owners retiring early" shit literally.

giving a restaurant owner a couple months of payroll for shutting down for 2 years isn't moving the needle. many, many went belly up for good.

i'm glad you got somewhat compensated for the lockdown.

wagecucks and poormos, of course, got absolutely ratfucked and lost out the most once again.

LMAO. It was like $800 billion out of $5 trillion total and that's not even counting lowering interest rates to zero for three years. And arguably, if it kept people employed for 10 weeks, some of the most cost effective spending during the pandemic. You just don't even understand the facts.

LOL loan forgiveness is a fucking scam.

99% of these loans were taken out before COVID. (I would probably support a program to offer some limited relief to people who signed up to attend college in person and then couldn’t, but that’s a small, small subset of the student loan-having population).

The unemployment rate reached record lows within like 3-6 months after the pandemic. Maybe waive some interest for folks who actually lost their job due to the pandemic, but that’s also a small percentage of college graduates. These scumbags need to be out working and paying their loans off. No excuse.
