There's no SAILING app that calculates tides, currents, wind, obstructions?

Date: November 28th, 2022 2:07 PM Author: Shaky Location Persian WTF is this shit. I downloaded Navionics and can use that to chart a course but it only shows obstructions or shallow grounds, doesnt factor in whether the course is even viable based on winds and currents.
I then download a separate tide app to tell the high and low tides
And then download PredictWind to see the wind direction and speed
LJL so there's no single app that just connects all this shit together? Seems it shld be possible |

If you're going a short distance you don't need to account for all that shit, if you're going a long distance then you need to know how because YOU WON'T HAVE CELL SERVICE.
It's obvious you need to take a class on seamanship, niggas with wooden boats and a compass/sextant could navigate a much less responsive ship. You can't be this reliant on an app to figure shit out for you if you're planning to navigate a fucking boat |

I don’t think you want tech intermediating your judgment on how the weather and wind, the tides, and your planned course all interact with one another.
You also don’t want to be overly reliant on models and stale data vs what you are actually observing in real time.

The boats are sitting in Fiji, Tonga, American Samoa, Vanuatu, etc. and the cruisers went home and have since given up on sailing and are trying to sell them remotely.
You could see if there are any killer deals on boats out there and then hire a person for crew to bring it back to SE Asia with you. By the end of that sort of big crossing you’d #1 know if you love it and #2 have accrued some solid sailing skills in short order. |

Figure it being a 2-3 week sail at $500/day for a crew of Australians (I’m guessing?). So maybe closer to $7-10K?
Alternatively you could get them to delivery with you to Bali and then you could hang there for a bit before finishing the sail on your own? Call that 1,200 miles and closer to an 8-10 day sail with good weather so back into your $4-5K range?
But this is all dependent on variables I don’t really have nailed down (distance, your boat’s speed, daily rate these days). |

Given the option between spending $10K to rush off and get the boat home vs take your time and find $10K worth of needed or nice upgrades to make sure you’re all set, I’d chose the later. |
