Date: November 29th, 2022 6:55 PM Author: Curious sadistic abode Lied and said I played a sport for a specific school. Very large university and not a main sport but big enough that it was impressive. Pretty much Was talked about for years and people gave me props for being a great athlete.
Well they hired a guy from a school in our conference who would have played the exact years that i played. It hasn’t come up yet but I want to vomit each day I see him that I’m gonna get caught in a lie. I change the subject whenever the sport comes up and I stopped wearing all my college gear. |

My advice: your fear is that you're going to be "found out" and people will learn of your poor character. Accept that everyone has poor character, and come up with a plan to own up to your mistake. Something like, "yeah I really wanted this job and I got sucked into this lie, it's terrible but I'm glad it came out as I felt horrible having to continue to cover for it. I'm sorry and I know you will judge me poorly for this but I hope that I can earn back your trust."
The advice to double down on the lie is terrible. If he walked on, or was only a member of a team for a little while, there are still countless ways he could be called out on it. Little things like the names of coaches, locations of team practices & meetings, etc. etc. will get you. Also, even in a big sport like football where there are 130+ guys on the team, everyone knew each other, I remember guys who were only on the team for a few weeks. If anything, those outliers are notable because they sucked and got dusted to the real players delight. |
