you friend does not spend tons of time with his kids. You can't both spend a "ton" of time with your kids and work from 8-8. He is a professional associate. Just lol.

All well billing 2002 3000 hours per year, killing me physically and mentally
Something changed toward the end, and I shifted to business generation, was able to make equity partner at this firm left, and started my own firm
Still work a shit load, but make 10 times more. I can tell you that being an equity partner and generating business is a completely different animal from being an associate and it is not merely a matter of working the hours and getting the title.
Looking back at my current associates, and even non-equity partners, I know for a fact that very few of them have the capability to actually do what I am doing. not that it is impossible. It is just a completely different skill set and personality.
Conclusion, here is that if you are grinding away as an associate, thinking that it translates to being a partner or running a business, that is just incorrect. all you are doing is making yourself a better associate so your skill set is and always will be billing hours |
