Walker took a huge risk and played for Trump's USFL team until the league died. Probably contributed to his disappointing NFL career. Walker loyally backed Trump ever since then, through ventures big and small, including politics.

Then, Walker saw Trump standing in front of those adoring crowds and wanted to be the hero of Georgia again. He called in his favor, and Trump had no choice but to grant it.

why did he leave UGA to play in the USFL? and why did he only get selected in the 5th round of the NFL draft? makes no sense as a heisman trophy winner. was he too small? i don't get it.

When Herschel left Georgia he was only 20 and still had college eligibility left so he wasn’t eligible for that NFL draft yet and the USFL was offering him a 3 year contract worth a few million dollars.

Dallas drafted him as a flyer a few years later while he was still playing in the USFL just to have his rights in case that league folded and or he ever wanted to come to the NFL.

Had he finished his Georgia career and then gone in the NFL draft he would have been the top pick or very close to it.
