What's the point of this charade?
You're a millionaire and have HHI of like $400k. Just go get a nicer house in a nicer town if that's what you want.
Your schtick is really dumb.

Yeah, you are just a shitty person and this is all flame.
You can easily buy a house in that price range given your income and assets.
If it's not flame, then you don't actually care about your kids.

Take an American family.
Let it exist for 3 generations. (1950 to 2020)
No one in the family takes drugs or gets divorced or has an out of wedlock kid.
Medium-level financial acumen (i.e. Vanguard)
Boom: there’s a $10MM family.
The above facts are uniquely true in US, not true in UK, France, etc

I think this is right, but a couple wrong moves throws everything off.
In my family, my parents were both from poor and fucked up homes. My mom’s dad died when she was 2 in an accident. As a result, my grandmother was forced to sell the parcel of land (~500 acres) that they had bought to subdivide and develop in an Eastern state. Her next husband was probably a good match for her, but never earned too much and was conservative and was the opposite of entrepreneurial. This lead to my mother being a little weird. She’s had multiple divorces and now lives alone and thinks she’s entitled to an expensive retirement.
My father left when I was about 4, and he’s had a number of marriages himself. His parents’ died well after he had left so I have no idea what was left to him. Also, I have no idea what he may leave to me, but possibly something, as I and my children are his only surviving issue.
This has had a profound impact on me and my family today, as I feel like I am literally building from the ground up, with no surviving family or base. I don’t even feel that close to my first cousins as the ones that I have live far away and have their own families and such and the ones on my dad’s side I couldn’t even begin to name or picture. They are simply lost to time. There must be 10 or more though.
With schooling, my wife and I have paid what was owed off of our own, so that’s a start. But I had to use a lot of debt to get through and my wife had to borrow a bit. She spent her first year working at home and putting her money aside before getting her first apartment. I did similar, except I borrowed way more and was living by myself from 19 on. Loans from law school were finished by 28 or 29.
If I had been able to funnel my 20s earnings toward a home down payment or had help with a house, or even if I had just had help getting my first car (this is surprisingly difficult when you come from nothing), I would be way better off today. I don’t think it takes a ton to help set your kids up financially, and I think just being stable yourself goes 90% of the way. If you’re financially stable and the kids take loans, but they know that if there’s a disaster—like they become disabled or something—they will have a place to go. I think that helps.

i got 20k from my dad in the late 90's to buy a 90k condo and that's the extent of family wealth contributing to where i'm at today. they didn't pay for my ttt college (great school, just not on usnwr metrics) or my ttt law school because i chose scholarships over prestige. where you're at today is a product of your own decision making, not whether mom and dad paved your way.
what they did do, which any reasonable parent should do, was send me to an urban catholic grade school (despite having moved to the suburbs) where i was properly educated and learned to think critically. despite all my classmates being from solid blue (tradesman) and very marginally white collar jobs (paramedics, nurses) every single kid who was in my academic section in 8th grade is now successful:
- radiologist
- orthopedic (known well enough the paper goes to him for pro sports injury commentary)
- t14 lawyer
- 2 pharmacists (bro and sis)
- me
even the ones who weren't in the advanced section all have made something of themselves, either having continued in the trades, become fireman, etc. and seem to have decent homes, families, etc. values / stable homes >>> family wealth, the latter of which often produces fucked up kids, imo.

i'm in the same boat except ime catholic schools push kids towards mediocrity/not being a fuckup vs. overachieving.
top 5 in my class did the following:
IB analyst -> M7 -> MBB. still there as far as I know.
gay. inner city public school teacher / probably a groomer
full ride at catholic TTT. now a physicians assistant, married with 3 kids and lives a few houses down from my parents.
stem phd nerd. does some research stuff at Duke last time I checked.
D1 football. went to TTT law school for some reason and now works in shitlaw.
Outside of that I know of 1 biglaw, a few ex-athlete sales bros who are pretty high up by now, and one chick who's a doctor. not much else to write home about. don't know of a single divorced person.
