Xers in 1999 made like $120k and it was like it was unheard of and it only lasted like 2 years.
My salary (in IT) in 1999 was closer to $45k. You are way off in the weeds.

You're still way off base. I recall a few tech boom stock bonuses.
$120k average salary is way way way off.
Where are you getting your info, because it's simply not true.
I was hired as an SE in 1995 for around $35k. Most of us are still not at 6 digits

Most Gen Xers aren’t at 6 figures but many many millennial Engineers are atm
120k was just a number I remember from 2000 and at the time it felt like way too much to be paying a GenX guy for some reason
