We make around $600k so we can cover it.
Per weird MFH owning premium plus maintenance and taxes and now high interest rates, buying a comparable apartment ($1.75 million) is like 1.6X the monthly outlay (like $11,000) after putting down like $400k |

Ignore equity unless you're planning to rent for 5+ years.
Ignore tax deduction, unless you're in the sweet spot of ~$750k mortgage and high tax bracket.
On the rent side, ignore the gains you could make by investing instead of down payment.
As an example, much better to rent than buy in SoCal right now. $2M house is $15k/month to buy vs. $7-8k to rent. |
