The situation I find myself in is that my parents aren't going to help out with any of my college tuition or living expenses. And they make too much money, so I'm screwed when it comes to receiving any sort of financial aid.
I have an offer from a 5 year union apprenticeship program where I'd start out making $45k with the potential to make $50k with overtime (and annual raises of $3k-$5k). In 5 years, if/when i became a journeyman, i'd be making $90k+ in a LCOL-MCOL area.
I also recently received a near full-tuition scholarship from U of Alabama as an OOS student. I'd still have to take out loans of $15k-$20k/year to cover the rest of tuition, books, living expenses, etc. If I ended up matriculating, I'd probably major in economics or government with the view to joining the military or going to law school (where I'd incur even more debt).
The more I think about it, the more I believe the trade apprenticeship is the far better option. But a lot of family/family friends I've talked to said I'd be crazy to pass up the college experience and that I'd be selling myself short with a blue-collar job. What would you choose if you were in my shoes? |

If you want to be a SCHOLAR, go to community college, take out no loans and live with parents. Proceed to destroy it and become a “research rat”. Meaning, start reading research papers about everything you are interested in. Teach yourself everything you don’t know. Look up everything that makes you think wtf did I just read. Do All this while getting A+ in ALL your classes and going to office hours everyday to discuss the research topics you are interested in. After a year or two, transfer to any institution of your choice to continue what you interests you (law, med, phd, engineering, etc.)
If you want to start STACKING BILLS, start trade school immediately and amass cash reserves. Live with parents. Save everything. Approach your TRADE like SCHOLAR. Learn everything that interests you about it. Branch out to other, related trades. Learn the physics and engineering behind the trade you are in. Go to a mentor in the trade and constantly ask questions and topics that you are working on. Promote what you learn because you love it so much on YouTube or whatever shit social platform gives you scale.
Similar to the “you can’t lose weight and build muscle” maxim you hear, these are three choices I present to you are mutually exclusive.
Whatever you choice is, don’t get complacent. If you’re going to fuck girls and party, do it to the max. Become the chadliest of the Chad. Film it. Exploit them. Start a party house. Start a cam studio. Etc.
If you can’t make a choice, travel and let do. But always be SCHOLARLY about what you’re doing and where you’re going. Something will pique your interest.
