The old system had 4 120ah AMG batts plus an 80ah engine start battery of unknown type, prob just lead acid car starter not AMG
I'm replacing with 2 100ah LIFE4PO. There is no battery management system but there's a solar panel MPPT controller and I checked, it can handle LIFE4PO. I just need to change the settings.
So in theory I cld just install the LIFE4PO and let them get charged by solar. But many ppl online say I also need a BMS. This is a pain in ass cause cant find anywehre in this shit country, cld order online I guess.
So do I really need a BMS? And wld I need one that can do 200ah? or is a single one doing 100ah suffient?
Then what abt the starter battery. They say dont mix AMG with LIFE4PO but some say if I get a DC to DC charger its ok. Another issue is the alternator and the regulator which is old as furk and I doubt can handle LIFE4PO. So maybe i shld just turn off the alternator
I cant find a furking electrician in this shithole

i think a BMS would just tell you how long your batteries are going to last
i would keep the starter battery on a separate system (charged by the alternator)

i thought abt that, i need to figure out how to disconnect the house bank LFP from the alternator cause right now i assume it charged all five batts but not sure how that works
but that wld work i cld get a car starter batt for like 90 bucks and just replace the current starter with it
and i thought the BMS makes sure the two batts are charged equally or some shit, furk my ass

even inside the boat they are getting exposed to saltwater air
listen, there is a cathode and an anode
it's very complicated
just use your old ones you will know if you're getting corrosion

I think this sounds like a good idea. I think you would need a BMS to run the alternator to the batteries, which as we discussed, you would need for an electric motor, but if the solar is sufficient to charge them - go for it. I don't have experience with this type of battery so not sure if a BMS is required for this.
get this simple system up and running and wait until you are in a better location to do electrical work.
What is the quality of the repair work being done? can you post photos?
