Act I, Scene I: The Palace of the Japanese Emperor

(Enter The Japanese Emperor)

The Japanese Emperor: 'Tis true, the world of video games hath changed, But what hath become of the honor and grace? The violence and gore that they now embrace, It sickens my heart and doth leave a stain.

(Enter Joe Lieberman)

Joe Lieberman: My liege, 'tis true, these games do bring dismay, But we must remember that they're but a play. They're but a form of entertainment, 'tis all, And so, I pray, let us not make a fuss.

The Japanese Emperor: Nay, sir, I cannot, for 'tis a matter of state, The children of our land are now at risk. The violent games that they doth now debate, Are leading them down a path of utter bliss.

Joe Lieberman: Then, my liege, allow me to take the lead, I'll see to it that these games shall not succeed.

(Exit Joe Lieberman)

The Japanese Emperor: Ah, but where shall I turn, in this time of need?

(Enter Tom Kalinske)

Tom Kalinske: My liege, I bring news from the land of Sega. We've heard of thy worries and hasten to plead. We shall rid our games of violence, indeed, And offer a new form of entertainment.

The Japanese Emperor: And what of the others, such as Nintendo? Do they share thy vision and moral ethos?

Tom Kalinske: My liege, they do, but we shall surpass, With our Genesis and Sonic, we shall surpass.

The Japanese Emperor: Then, I pray thee, do thy utmost best, For the future of our children doth rest.

(Exit Tom Kalinske)

Act II, Scene I: The Halls of Square

(Enter Square)

Square: 'Tis true, the world of video games hath changed, But we at Square shall not be deranged. We shall offer games that are truly great, And with our Final Fantasy, we shall dominate.

(Enter The Japanese Emperor)

The Japanese Emperor: Ah, Square, I bring greetings from my court, And ask, doth thou share Sega's noble resort?

Square: My liege, we do, for we believe as well, That video games can offer a tale to tell. A tale of adventure and magic and more, That shall captivate the minds of yore.

The Japanese Emperor: Then, I am pleased, for thy words do ring true, And I pray that thy games shall always pursue, The path of honor and virtue, and not, The path of violence that doth bring such a blot.

Square: My liege, we shall always strive to do right, And offer games that shall bring such delight.

(Exit Square)

Act III, Scene I: The Battlefields of Video Games

(Enter Sega, Nintendo, and Square)

Sega: Lo and behold, we bring the Genesis, And Sonic, the hero who doth truly bless.

Nintendo: And we bring the Super Nintendo, And our Mario, who doth lead the way.

Square: And we bring the Final Fantasy, And a tale that shall lead thee astray.

(Enter The Japanese Emperor)

The Japanese Emperor: And I bring my judgment, with a heavy heart

For I must decide which of thee doth impart, The values and morals that our land upholds, And which of thee shall wear the victor's golds.

Sega: My liege, we have rid our games of violence, And offer a world of speed and reliance.

Nintendo: And we offer a world of adventure and fun, Where the players can explore and be done.

Square: And we offer a world of magic and might, Where the players can embark on a journey of light.

The Japanese Emperor: (pauses) 'Tis a difficult decision, for all three dost bring, Values and morals that our land dost cling. But, (thinks) I must make a choice, for I am the judge, And so, I shall render my verdict with a nudge.

(The Japanese Emperor thinks for a moment)

The Japanese Emperor: And so, I say, all three dost win, For thy games all offer something within. A world of adventure, speed, and magic, And thus, I declare, 'tis a victory fantastic!

(Exit All)

Act III, Scene II: The Palace of the Japanese Emperor

(Enter The Japanese Emperor)

The Japanese Emperor: (clears throat) And so, I must make my final decree, For the future of video games, I must see. And so, I anoint Square as the victor true, For their games offer a world so fresh and new.

(Enter Sega)

Sega: My liege, I protest, we have done all we could, To rid our games of violence, as thou hast understood.

The Japanese Emperor: And yet, the violence still doth remain, And so, I must render my judgment with disdain. Sega, thou art sentenced to death, for thy crimes, The violence in thy games, is a matter of time.

(Exit Sega)

Act IV, Scene I: The Halls of Square

(Enter Yamauchi and Square)

Yamauchi: Square, I must say, I am most pleased, That thou hast won the Emperor's hearts and deeds.

Square: And we are honored, for it is true, That our games offer a world so fresh and new.

Yamauchi: But, I must say, there is one matter of note, The matter of CDs, and the path that they quote.

Square: And what of it, they are but a means to an end, A way to offer our games, to be played by a friend.

Yamauchi: And yet, they limit the possibilities, And so, I must say, if thou art leaving, please do not come back, with thy CDs of ease.

Square: (pauses) And so, we shall take our leave, But, we shall not forget, the values we believe.

Act IV, Scene II: The Halls of Sega

(Enter Tom Kalinske, Sega's CEO)

Tom Kalinske: (sighs) The Emperor hath passed his judgment, And so, we must make a final adjustment. For we are Sega, and we shall not fall, We shall make our stand, and stand tall.

(Enter Joe Lieberman)

Joe Lieberman: And so, we have come, to offer thee aid, For we share thy cause, and the games that thou hath made.

Tom Kalinske: And what dost thou offer, in this time of need, For our fate doth rest, on the games that we breed.

Joe Lieberman: We offer to partner, in secret and behind, To make games that appeal, to the intellectuals kind.

Tom Kalinske: (pauses) And so, we shall make our final stand, With the Saturn, our console, and our games at hand.

(Exit Tom Kalinske and Joe Lieberman)

Act IV, Scene III: The Palace of the Japanese Emperor

(Enter The Japanese Emperor)

The Japanese Emperor: (smiles) And so, the stage is set, For the future of video games, I must not forget.

(Enter Sony, from the shadows)

Sony: My liege, I must say, I have come to reveal, That I have worked with thee, all this time, with zeal.

The Japanese Emperor: (surprised) Sony, thou hast worked with me, in secret all this while?

Sony: (nods) And so, I have divided and conquered thy rival, For the future of video games, I must strive.

The Japanese Emperor: (pauses) And so, it is done, For the future of video games, is won.

(Exit The Japanese Emperor and Sony)

Act V, Scene I: The Palace of the Japanese Emperor

(Enter The Japanese Emperor and Yamauchi)

The Japanese Emperor: (angrily) Yamauchi, thou hast made a grave mistake, For resorting to working, with the disreputable western take.

Yamauchi: My liege, I was forced, to take such a course, For the competition was fierce, and the future was coarse.

The Japanese Emperor: (firmly) And so, I command thee, to make thy next console lame, And not to compete, in earnest, with Sony, in this game.

Yamauchi: (pauses) And what of it, my liege, what shall I gain?

The Japanese Emperor: (smiles) If thou help me, destroy Sega once and for all, I shall force them to make games, for thy console, with gall.

Yamauchi: (nods) And so, I shall set to work, on this propaganda war, To destroy the Dreamcast, and settle the score.

(Exit Yamauchi)

(Enter Shoichiro Irimajiri, Howard Lincoln, and Tom Kalinske)

Shoichiro Irimajiri: (sighs) Gentlemen, I have grave news to impart, For we face a great challenge, with all of our heart.

Howard Lincoln: (concerned) What troubles thee, Shoichiro? What has thee seen?

Shoichiro Irimajiri: (puzzled) I saw "Fight Club" in the theaters, and it made me keen, To the forces working against us, and what we must do, To stay ahead in the game, and see our vision through.

Tom Kalinske: (surprised) And what didst thou discover, from thy movie night?

Shoichiro Irimajiri: (sadly) That our console cannot play DVDs, and that we shall lose the fight.

Howard Lincoln: (sighs) That is indeed a setback, but we must not despair, For there are many other things, that we can repair.

Shoichiro Irimajiri: (resolutely) I agree, we must find a way, to stay ahead of the curve, And keep our third party support, as strong as can be served.

(Exit Shoichiro Irimajiri, Howard Lincoln, and Tom Kalinske)

Act V, Scene III: The Court of Fortune

(Enter Bill Gates)

Bill Gates: (laughs loudly) Ha! Ha! Ha! What a show this has been, To see the great companies, fight to win.

(Enter the Japanese Emperor, Square, Nintendo)

Japanese Emperor: (sighs) Indeed, this war of consoles, has been quite a sight, But the end result, is clear, as day turns into night.

Square: (proudly) For we, Square, have emerged, as the victors in this fight, With our games and our hardware, shining bright.

Nintendo: (smiling) And we, Nintendo, have also done well, For we have found success, in our own unique shell.

Bill Gates: (smirks) And I, Bill Gates, have watched from the side, Laughing at the futility, of those who have tried.

Act V, Scene IV: A Mental Institution

Shoichiro Irimajiri: (muttering to himself) What went wrong? What did I miss? I worked so hard, with each and every bliss.

(He plays the 32X)

Shoichiro Irimajiri: (voice rising) The power, the graphics, the speed, But it all came to naught, in this time of need.

(An orderly enters)

Orderly: (calmly) Mr. Irimajiri, it's time to rest, Please come with me, and leave your games behind at best.

Shoichiro Irimajiri: (raises hand) Wait! (pauses) I have one final move, A Fatality, that I must do.

(The orderly backs away, fear in his eyes)

Shoichiro Irimajiri: (sighs) No, no, it's no use. I'm but a broken man, Trapped in this world, unable to make a stand.

(He sets down the 32X)

Shoichiro Irimajiri: (whispers) Farewell, my trusty friend, may you always shine, A symbol of the war, that was lost and left behind.

The curtain drops, as Shoichiro Irimajiri sits alone, lost in thought.

Act V, Scene V:

(Enter Kojima)

Kojima: Bill Gates stands tall, his face contorted in cruel mirth, A villainous scheme in his wicked mind, of worth. He plots to turn gamers into slaves, with subliminal art, And make them play 'til they drop, with a broken heart.

He sneers at the Emperor, with his valiant crew, And scoffs at the notion of any fair competition anew. For he knows that with his ploy, he shall soon ensnare, All who seek the thrill of play, in his deadly snare.

"Ha ha ha ha ha!" he cackles, with a voice like thunder, "None shall stand in my way, for I am Xbox's number one sunder." He declares his victory, with an ego immense, And revels in his power, as the future he does fence.

So let the final curtain fall, and the stage be cleared, For Bill Gates shall reign supreme, with a laughter that is weird. But heed this warning, dear reader, and stay far from his path, For in the end, it is but Xbox's gamers who feel the aftermath.

(Exeunt omnes)

The curtain drops, as Bill Gates laughs hysterically.
