yes and more importantly a personal connection to the manufacturer. once you land a distribution contract with a manufacturer no other distributor can move their product in your region. so you can imagine how much graft and corruption goes on in obtaining a contract from AB or brown forman or gallo wines. in any other business it'd be a blatant antitrust violation, but it's ok here because "it protects the public health and safety."
manufacturers across the country have had to fight like hell to sell their own product to-go because a manufacturer's license only allows for on-site consumption. the distributors and retailers lobby against it because it cuts them out - i mean uhh it endangers the public health and safety.
it's a total fucking racket.

You don't know anyone who owns a beer distribtor or a soda distributor?
It's basically the same thing as a car dealership with the same type of people owning them - they're given a legal monopoly and then for generations act like they're god's gift to business and "job creators"

There's got to be a certain amount of libs and fags who are now drinking more Bud in some sort of fucked up solidarity with GC.
And it wouldn't take all that many to swing the pendulum a bit either, fags are notorious substance abusers & some rather small fraction of the population makes up a huge portion of alcohol sales.
IME it could still get a lot worse for Bud

You think corporate AB is gonna deliver beer to the tens of thousands of retailers and restaurants in any decent sized city?
Distribution is the hidden industry of the American economy but it’s huge

For various large segments of the consumer-facing economy, they do all that and then some.
Soda, bread, chips, sweets, greeting cards at the grocery store? None of that shit passes through "normal" distribution channels. They all pay stores for shelf space and have their own distribution.
There's a reason why Tesla is fighting the dealership model. It's more profitable for them if they can sell direct to consumer.

i used to represent two beer distributors. family owned businesses. basically a printing press. anyone in a distributor's geographical region that buys budweiser, miller, etc. have to buy it from the distributor.
there are laws in place that protect distributors too. they spend lots of money on lobbyists and such.
