So three "coins" that are available in today's cash registers?

I'm not trying to out anyone, so no need to post about famous rarities or anything provenanced to your/your family's name... but you can be moar specific than "half dollar."

Interesting selection. Who's on the sestertius? Is it dated by year of rule?

I think Asian coins in general are undervalued, but the language barrier is a bit too intimidating for me.

I have a box of em, doubt they’re rare and probably not worth much but it’s cool to see the swastika on them and wonder who might have held them before.

You should buy a book on the series and go through them sometime.

I don't specialize in modern coinage, but I have a 1942 Russian 10 Kopek (nickel-size, non-silver small denomination coin) that's rare because Leningrad was under siege at the time it was minted; obviously, not many of these were made.

It's interesting to know the history behind old coins... they're literally artifacts from past times.

I really thought people on this site would have some key US or modern world rarities.

Looks like I'm the only numismatist here :(

There are three classes in the coin world: dealer, collector (what I think you're interested in), and numismatist (researcher).

It's hard to be a collector without the numismatic/research side to aid you.

Your only defense against scams & getting ripped off is knowledge, and you're only going to get that through research. The internet can be useful (though not often), but you really need a numismatic library & some degree of activity in the field like attending shows.

Fortunately, shows range from free to $10, and books can be had for good prices nowadays (because nobody reads anymore).

A year 1 shekel from the first war (AD 66/67) would be a great coin to have. You could get a decent specimen for around $5k.

I can't read Hebrew, though, so I prefer coins dated in Roman or Hindu-Arabic numerals (about 1300 years later).
