i'm not sure people realize how stark of a difference the death tolls are. even if you use the israel numbers it's alarming. and to be expected -- you've got ragtag jihadists going up against a first world power.

which, of course, is why they always point the the purported war crimes. and ignoring the fact that they were exposed as wildly exaggerated moments after published, again, what do people expect? we routinely commit war crimes too. it's what happens in war. the only thing that can curtail it somewhat is strong supervision and organization. well hamas doesn't have that! what do you expect a bunch of people are going to do that get pushed to the point of violent radicalization? there's going to be some brutality. i'm not excusing it at all, but it is 100% expected. the same would happen anywhere when a group is oppressed to the point of violent revolt.

There's a massive imbalance of power and resources and the "war crimes" argument is almost always used by the more powerful aggressor to demonize the oppressed party's resistance. Same is true in Ukraine.

1) oppress a group, routinely abusing and murdering them, leaving them in terrible material conditions

2) group is pushed to the point of resistance, where some brutality occurs

3) use that brutality as the reason *why* the oppression must continue

this is basically the entire israel-palestine conflict in a nutshell. and palestine knows that if the status quo continues they will eventually be squeezed out completely.

also, the fence-sitting "i support palenstine's cause but not how they do things!" thoughtful moderate approach is exactly what mlk criticized white moderates for in letter from birmingham jail. all it does it kick the can down the lane so the moderate doesn't have to take a real stance, which is functionally equivalent to just supporting israel because it just leads to a return to the status quo.

there's only three real options:

1) support israel, allowing an apartheid state to persist

2) support palestine, resulting in israel no longer being a nation

3) two-state solution.

and the whole reason the conservative israelis will not consider option 3 is that it forces people make a harder choice, and most will go with supporting israel. aside from tbf types, the west won't permit israel to no longer exist.
