That would seem like a huge fault with the theory, IF true. It's what many anti-evolutionists are saying.

And they do have a point.

Its crazy that we have all these species that are so different from one another when we should be seeing an unbroken chain of one animal that looks a little bit different from the next, all the way from small little amphibians to huge mammals.

We should be able to line the species up like in one of those picture flipbooks and watch them morph by 'flipping' through the pages really quickly.

But where are the 'missing links'?

why do people always say this lol

the idea doesn't make sense. any fossil of any living creature is a "transition fossil" in the sense that there were species before that creature, and species after that creature. nobody is gonna find a fossil of a year 2000 human in the year 100,000 A.D. and think that it was a "transition species" between savannah apes and whatever eloi creatures come after humans. even though that is technically what we would be

think about it for like 30 seconds. this is one of the most low-IQ and silly "anti-evolution" arguments

this is one of those things that any person capable of abstract thought can understand, they just need to actually spend a little bit of time thinking about it

the entire attempted distinction between "micro-evolution" and "macro-evolution" is incoherent and silly and a product of dishonest people who want to justify their own religious beliefs. it's unironically just a bunch of fundamentalist christians making up pseudo-intellectual nonsense

if micro-evolution is real (and it is, it's a phenomena that's observable by an individual), then macro-evolution is also real, because it's the same phenomenon and mechanism. there's no anti-evolution argument that holds any water

there is actually a big debate about macro and micro if you would bother looking into it. fruit flies have been manipulated hundreds of thousands of times by scientists in order to try to create a fruit fly that can only mate with one of its kind, not the first generation of fruit flies, and scientists have been unable to do it.

i'm aware of the "debate." it's not actually a debate. even the computational "argument" against darwinian evolution doesn't hold any water and is reliant on making up arbitrary numerical assumptions

i know people personally who have done fruit fly breeding. it's very easy and an average person can do it and understand it

we know how evolution works. it's real and undeniable

no, it's you who doesn't know what you're talking about. all fossils are "transition fossils." you are just not actually focusing and thinking about this

close your eyes, focus, and think about this abstractly for 60 to 120 seconds. focus on nothing else. focus on these questions:

1. what would a "transition fossil" look like compared to a regular fossil?

2. what are the specific differences/characteristics that make a fossil a "transition fossil?"

They're not the same thing, because micro-evolved (adapted) creatures can mate and produce fertile offspring, while macro-evolved creatures (misnome) cannot

This seems more obvious to me than your conclusion that all fossils are transition fossils. There is no self evident transition phase between a billion different species

every living creature is in a transition phase between a billion different species coming before and after it

creatures diverging from each other will continue to mate with each other. their offspring are just less and less successful, and selection pressures favor the speciation break more and more, until they have fully diverged

Not really. Offspring of more genetically divergent mates of the SAME species (ie hapas, mulattos) are more reproductively successful than offspring of more homogeneous pairs.

Offspring of mates of different species are completely infertile. There's not a spectrum of fertility that correlates with parental genetic homogeneity

Huh? Your first statement is completely incorrect. I am guessing you are misunderstanding the concept of 'hybrid vigor,' which only refers to the avoidance of potential inbreeding depression that you can get by mating two organisms who are too genetically similar to each other

This is a pretty common misunderstanding, and the same "misunderstanding" that lib pseudo-intellectuals are making when they claim that "race mixing is ackshually good!" It's not, of course: race mixing in humans leads to reduced fitness, as can be easily empirically observed, because racial populations are too genetically distant from each other and therefore get dinged by outbreeding depression

"

every living creature is in a transition phase between a billion different species coming before and after it "

this is a refutation/rejection of the entire idea of speciation. under this theory we should be able to arrange all 100 trillion organisms currently living on the earth of a smooth spectrum of being. ie, every single being would be able to reproduce with the organism to the right of it, and the left of it. easy and seamless transitions at the individual level, but nevertheless on the wider spectrum you have single celled animals all the way to the left and blue whales all the way to the right

idk maybe you believe this, I don't argue points of religious doctrine, but it certainly seems off to me just on an "eyeball" basis so to speak

"Fossils" are just a randomly captured snapshot in time. I don't see how anyone could be confused about this unless they suppose that we should be able to find a spot in the geologic strata that captured a snapshot at 1,000-year intervals in an unchanging environment over a 100M-year period.

People can't wrap their minds around the time scales involved.

The earth is 4 billion years old.

The last common human chimp ancestor lived 5-13 million years ago.

Million = 1000 millennia so if each generation was 20 years, there are 50 generations per millennia times 1000 millennia per million years times 5 millions = 250,000 generations since last common ancestor.

Seems enough generations to me for Incremental changes to separate the chimpanzees and humans.

It's because all fossils are technically transitional since we are seeing species that aren't around today, and can see the result of what that group (either directly or possibly a sister Taxon) became. Creationists argue against this because I assume they either haven't actually researched it and are therefore repeating stagnant information or haven't realised the gravity of humanity's findings on this topic. For instance, if you line up all our ancestors, including older remains of our own species, you can indeed see a transition from tree dweller to obligate bipedalism, as well an increase in brain size and a dental reduction. If that doesn't make a valid enough case, other sources like genetics can back up evolution.
