I knew that book was ticking time bomb the first time I read the first chapter. You can't push that shit on college students indefinitely without it blowing up at some point.

People who tell you to read that book are like cult members. Once you start doing post-structuralism you can't stop. It's too easy to just "deconstruct" everything.

my most vivid memory from that book is being completely dumbfounded at how dumb and whiny this guy was. he essentially complains for 300 pages straight that white people consider non-white people as separate from them and beneath them. okay? well, i mean, you do completely suck though. so are they wrong about this? (he never actually accuses white people of being wrong about this - he literally just whines for 300 pages)

anybody reading the book today would consider it completely un-noteworthy and mundane in today's world. it's the same pointless drivel babbled about on a daily basis by any dumb non-white pseudo-intellectual "academic." but it was my first exposure to this kind of blatantly fake, laughably bogus shitlib racial grievance pseudo-intellectualism. it really left a visceral, lasting impression on me that i'll never forget

I agree it doesn't really stand out at all today. The most extreme work I've read from that genre was "Imperial Leather" by a woman who got her PhD from Columbia. This book argued, among other things, that soap is racist. The book title is named after some famous old brand of soap.

I mean, the dood was probably THE most influential academic ever associated with Columbia. When the protests started all I could think was "that's the school where Edward Said taught." Then I googled the president of Columbia and I saw she was muslim from Egypt. Now this:
