You end up in downtown St Louis without a car so if you don't know anyone there you'd still need some way to get to and from the train station or a rental car it's likely not going to be that much cheaper than a plane ticket, would cost more than driving and take about as long |

Also the rolling stock is shit because no one is going to buy a sweet Euro or Jap train to run slowly on shitty rails. And the workforce is a bunch of lazy government union types who are totally protected in Congress. otoh, the hyperloop idea was intriguing for DC-NY and LA-SF. but high-speed rail? no. |
