What is with proles/strivers trying to sell everything on Facebook marketplace?

It's understandable for bigger items that are costly and that you'd want someone to come pick up too (furniture, a grill, etc). But my Facebook feed is full of UMC striver types and proles united by trying to sell random crap for miniscule prices.
Just saw a college friend who works in strategy consulting list a pair of 14k gold earrings for $40... is the hassle of strangers hitting you up and then arranging a mutually convenient pickup location worth the $40 for someone who makes around 200k?

i don't understand it at all.
it makes me wince to see that someone is taking the time to try and sell some bullshit toy or kitchen item for $10.
maybe i'm not seeing that it's all part of a larger operation, but i doubt it.
i would assume it's mostly unemployed wives trying to feel like they contribute to the household.

I've bought a bunch of shit on FB marketplace, its 180
you can also see what the seller looks like, avoid the shady looking ones

I have an old tv with these weird light spots on it like this
I was thinking about putting it on FB marketplace for like $20. my theory is people will see that and think "what a great deal" and I'd actually get rid of it faster, because anyone will assume a TV listed for free is junk
