I've been wondering about this all morning. I'm leaning towards no, because I still need to accumalate wealth for a bit to build a bridge for my next act, but I don't know.

The problem is that it's hard to get the timing right twice. You may hang onto a stock that's going sideways forever, sell it, then it immediately double. People are bad investors. What information advantage do you have?

Zero edge. The info that comes to me is all public, and it's mostly old, and I have strong "feelings" too. I'm not one of these steely diamond hand autists that you hear about.

You may get outsized earnings, you may lose a lot. You need to think about the utility of 10x'ing your money vs maybe 4x or whatever you'll accumulate over a lifetime of investing. If the latter is almost a sure thing, would you risk losing everything for a chance at that extra money? The marginal utility doesn't seem like it's enough to support it. What else would you even buy?

There is nothing to buy except more securities in the long run.

In the short run, I want to be able to pay off my house and have enough for my kids college.

Also, in the short run, I want to have enough to comfortably go solo with my practice. We are working toward that.

I've always been an index investor. The 529 plans are the Nevada plan so those are year targeted plans, but I have always done some kind of index investing.

i would say not to bother, although i just put like 40 grand into Nvidia because i figure in 10 years that shit will be way higher than it is now. but who really knows.

put all your money into ETFs: QQQ, vanguard's s&p growth ETF, vanguard's tech ETF. shit like that. and then suck my dick.

What are your thoughts on small cap ETFs like AVUV and AVDV and emerging market ETFs like AVES for that small cap tilt? Will that make the portfolio more efficient?

not familiar with those but emerging market shit has been TTT for decades i think

i'd put all of it into QQQ, then 2-3 vanguard ETFS, like the one that tracks the russell 1000, s&p (they have one that's the entire index, then a "growth" subset of the index), shit like that.

I don’t understand this Buying High thing that people do. Don’t chase value but at least try to find something that hasn’t mooned already ffs.

And if you’ve been conservative all this time or in bonds like Tommy, wait for ITE2 ffs

If you have enough to invest in individual stocks to get a reasonably diversified portfolio without paying management fees to a middleman, then sure.

If you're an autist who can spend hours every day researching stocks to identify stocks that are undervalued and/or have above average growth potential, then maybe. But know that, at any given time, there are thousands of other autists around the world trying to do the same, and the likelihood that you will find a buying opportunity that nobody else notices is very low.

If you're trying to beat the market by gambling on a few stocks without researching and monitoring them very carefully, then probably not. There's autists who research stocks 24/7 who can't beat the market, so the likelihood that you will beat the market without doing the research is very low. If you want to gamble on a small portion of your portfolio as an adrenaline rush, then go for it, but realize that you are gambling, not investing.
