have a half dozen older smiths in different configurations. rugers, etc.
in general, buy an older s&w, no "airlight" "ladysmith" etc. you want a full weight model if you intend to use it. also assume you need to be within 10' of your target.
other than that they (major manufacturers) are all functionally the same.
