Right. Talk to someone who knows nothing about your problems?
Whenever someone comes to me I look at them and I say “I would never want you to do that, but I’m not going to stand here and tell you your life is ideal in anyway. Why don’t you just take a few months, hit the gym and get jacked and go talk to a bunch of bitches then if you feel the same way after then recognize we have a problem. But I can almost guarantee you’ll feel better.”

The person they will assign to talk to you will either be a) a silly, overcredentialed woman with a social work degree, who already hates you before you open your mouth or b) a scammy foreign shrink who’s too dumb to get any shrink job better than literally the worst one you can get (government mental facility).

I really would rather not have an underqualified dilettante of no meaningful relation to myself voyeuristically and pornographically leer into the details of my internal life to gossip about it with her chatty cathy magpies over brunch

it means they want to appear supportive and feel as if, when you do killself, they did something, but in reality it is of course useless but it makes them feel better to believe it is possible that "talking to someone" would work because in their minds talking to someone would make them feel better about their problems, which are of course not suicidal ideation on a daily basis but actual normal problems

"I'm sorry you have no meaningful relationships but given that fact I also am not available however I have some great advice and that is to pay someone else to care"

in fairness to people mental illness is an unsolvable problem and you simply cannot deal with it long term, might as well confine it to yourself and a charlaton being paid to pretend to help, no reason to bother others with it
