Cities would be better off using the same space and right of way for dedicated bus lines. Unlike light rail cars, a bus can leave the segregated transit corridor and move on to surface streets. Busses are also cheaper and far less exotic to maintain. However, urban professionals that light rail is designed to serve, would never ride a bus. The boring company takes the idea of the segregated transit but uses self driving pods. Self driving cars in general make a lot of these big city transportation projects irrelevant.
