Then I saw him on Julian Dorey's podcast and I've been hooked ever since. Once he started his channel, I immediately subscribed. I also gifted like 100 subs and actually got to talk to him personally the morning of his interview with Joe Rogan. That's when he told me he'd be on Tucker a few weeks later. His Tucker interview is 180.

Many others have tried to be YouTube Dave Ramsey, but he's the only one that figured out a differentiated delivery mechanism (the financial audits) instead of just giving the same generic advice as all the others. |

IMO he is obviously smart in part because he figured out the differentiated approach (the financial audit interviews) which somehow had never been done before (as far as I understand it.) But also because he didn't stop there. He is building a real business around the initial audience building mechanism.
Unlike most of XO, I actually have a soft spot for Dave Ramsey. yeah yeah I know credit card points are good. But the simple stuff goes a really long way and it's very easy to succumb to lifestyle creep when you're making $$$. That, and his advice is good for probably 97% of people who aren't as smart as all the 6'3" jacked studs on XO making $800k a year.
But I imagine Ramsey's business has declined over the last few years given how tied to shit like Satellite radio he is and call-ins. He's effectively been shut-out of really growing his presence where it matters most (YouTube) and probably is too old at this point to really do it. And I say this, again, as someone who will defend Ramsey. |

1. invest in actively managed mutual funds (here are a couple that are officially sponsored by the Dave Ramsey Universe!)
2. you can easily withdraw 7-8% of your money in retirement, because the funds referenced in para 1 above return 12%; that's exactly 12% each year, no more and no less.
i get why he dispenses both pieces of advice. the first one he must know is bullshit, but he makes money on it. the second one seems to be rooted in the theory that unless poors are given some hope that they can retire one day, they won't bother saving and will just YOLO all their money. because the average person will never be able to amass more than $1 million (probably a bit less), he has to tell these people that they can withdraw enough to meet their living expenses. i have to imagine 40% or more of people who follow his retarded advice end up having to go work at wal mart at age 73 or whatever. |
