Had there been nuclear weapons restraining various actors, including ourselves, we would have had greater incentive to pursue stability, which would also funnel much more money back into the US instead of our military
I don't think there's any coherent defense for what we've done than "because we could" (or thought we could, at least), and that's not a recipe for long-term success |

That would be the worst possible outcome for the US. Israel and these Sunni dictators are by design. The US needs a pretext to maintain occupation.
A nuclear Iran would remove a ton of options from the table and likely we'd see other Arab states begin their own programs. The US must be the only nuclear power in the region. |

The US just needs a bad guy in the region so we have a reason that arabs are cool with us having bases there (even though the bases are really there so we can prevent their autocratic governments from being deposed).
