You'd be accessing the database only whenever a post is made. Otherwise you could serve plain old HTML. Pages would look exactly the same, but it'd lighten the mysql server load dramatically. Note: I am assuming you haven't done this already. Also I've never worked on a DB this big, so I may not know what I"m talking about. |

MSSQL express has a10gb/database limit and no row limit. If we're well under 10gbs, might be worth considering switching.
In any case, splitting up the tables by year seems like a decent idea if a row limit is the issue. Dont know your table structure but the only obstacles i see are
Making sure search queries hit all tables
Also, you'd need to somehow code a thread to move to the newest table if someone bumps a thread from '09, '10, etc |
