tbf, not all of those were instant hits, or were hits but grew over time as people like me who watched them as a kid used nostalgia to turn them into legend. So, you can say the jury is still out for 2019 movies. I'm not optimistic even one movie from today will come close to any one of those, but the point needs to be made.

As I said in my poast "...or were hits but grew over time." not sure whats going on with xo today brothers, but the rc has been slow on the uptake on a lot of poasts. Hopefully, we will all regroup and have a better evening.

so what was your point exactly?
that the movies listed above aren't different in quality from the movies released today because, even though they were beloved and considered well-made at the time of release, that appreciation has also grown?

Alright, man, I'll help you through this. The movies were hits, but they are also believed by 80s kids. As those kids are now adults these movies have grown with them, and have garnered additional critical acclaim. I was just putting it out there that the same could happen with a 2019, but I qualified that I did not think that likely.
Not sure what the fuck is going on in here that this concept is so hard. Anyways, we on the same page now?
Because retrospect is funny like that. For example, lots of pop songs now considered as iconic for their era only hit 30-50th on the Billboard 100 while the top ten was crowded with shitty ballads no one remembers.
a lot of that is because the singles market is dominated by females, which means that women all follow the same trends and propel shitty songs to number 1
Not every movie is great, but what's striking about the old lists is the variety of genres that could be successful movies. Now its just CGI and superhero/fantasy trash.
Lion King, Forrest Gump, True Lies, The Flintstones (lol wtf?), The Mask, Speed, Dumb and Dumber, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Interview with a Vampire, Pulp Fiction.
