In theory, yes.

The difference is that among most Covid vaccines, the protection is more specific than prior infection immunity.

There is a very good argument supported by some evidence that prior coronaviruses developed into the colds they are now because of natural selection. Why COVID-19 is not weakening in its variants is not clear.

The real answer is “we don’t know.” The best case scenario is that the immune response produced by the vaccine works as well in every respect naturally acquired immunity.

One serious concern is that the immunity conveyed by the vaccines is dissimilar from true sterilizing immunity in that post infection individuals with antibody protection do not walk around with any viral load (let alone the heightened viral load which seems to be present in post vaxers). The MRNA vax tricks your immune system into identifying part of the viral particle as a contagion it’s already tangled with. The basis of those two physicians’ suit against the European FDA analogue a few months ago was that this might inadvertently lead to vaxxed immune systems attacking homologous aspects of human biology—specifically some tissue in the uterine wall (but again, because we’ve never deployed this technology before, we don’t know). It might be that the vax’d immune response provides some protection from the symptoms which kill but does not stop the virus from hanging around in the host’s system for a time (we don’t know). If that is the case, it, in conjunction with the absence of sickness behavior which ordinarily dissuades some share of the infected from socializing/spreading to new hosts, would go some of the way towards explaining the bizarre (and dramatic) upticks in the rate of spread once the vax is deployed. We don’t know. If the virus can stick around in the vax’d, you would expect to see those strains which are better at rapidly producing dramatically higher viral loads become more prevalent—someone here linked Marek’s disease the other day, it’s scary shit which was only made possible through the same short sighted idiocy we’ve seen guide every step of the American public health response.

Setting aside the possibility of completely unforeseen complications (which may or may not arise, we don’t know) the vaxes do appear to reduce symptoms dramatically albeit temporarily and against a constantly narrowing slice of global strains. Given how age striated the risks of serious harm from covid itself (and don’t let the hysterical screeching of credulous Dunning Kruger caricatures like LTM fool you, covid is not cutting a bloody swathe through healthy or young people, it is significantly less dangerous than the flu to all age brackets but the most elderly), a sane society would OFFER the vax to the aged or otherwise at risk and protect those groups from symptoms (after receiving informed consent) while also allowing segments of the population not at serious risk to attain the superior protection of true sterilizing immunity and avoid the unknowns of novel tech pushed out by transparently evil mega corporations which have been insulated from any liability.

We are led by abject retards incapable of recognizing why fostering an atmosphere of lysenkoism/piling up decades of institutional credibility and setting it aflame in order to influence petty transitory political squabbles produces an atmosphere of mistrust and suspicion.

Sure everything you made sense and was backed by fact and logic, but I missed the part where you got a masters in public health?

Please leave COVID policy to the experts - thanks.
