Could also be a situation where she felt relieved by lex opening up on the first date- it made her feel like he was her peer, and made her feel less dysfunctional to be post-divorce and thinking about fleeing the area, etc. She enjoyed doing activities with him that SHE likes (ie, drinks, chatting, looking to the future and planning shrew trips with the honeymoon period rush of excitement about dating) and got caught up in those and enjoying feeling physical affection from someone new. Then reality caught up to her as she learned more activities that he enjoys and the rush of meeting someone new started to fade slightly, she realized that she just wasn't that into him specifically.
Shit like this happens all the time.

Date: October 3rd, 2024 1:18 AM Author: lex while i'm being self-indulgent (i'm on a streak, i'll just own it), i think what i liked about her was her image of herself. she presented herself as someone spiritually dead trying to make a more meaningful life after career advancement started to plateau and increasing the dragon's horde wasn't satisfying. i didn't pick a buddhist text randomly. i have my own philosophical views and they are far from undeveloped, but she made a point of choosing that as a religion and complained that she never actually got around to reading the heart sutra, and communicating that this was who she wanted to be in her imagining of her new life. i liked that. i actually really liked that. she wanted to have a creative life as well, but didn't really know how to approach it besides taking (what i'm guessing were overpriced) painting classes. so i wrote a story in my head about broken people complementing each other's brokenness in an interesting way. in the end, i liked my story. i took the idea of dating as seeking a connection at face. i'm an idiot, then. yet i still don't want to kill whatever bit of whimsy or sincerity led me here, even if just in this weeklong fling. so then what do i want? what's realistic to expect? i certainly don't want to daddy around some young girl for the rest of my 30's, and i'm not jaded enough to take the rapepill. just... chill and let something work out once i can meet someone who is actually more compatible with my disposition -- more mundanely, someone that's more bohemian or nerdy (whatever that means for a 30-something) and less shrewy, and accept that any depth to those similarities in personality is just that, superficial at first and perhaps even long-term? fuck. this was all easier when i was young and drunk. |
