facebook is social media. and it was just your friends from irl and none of them posted anything iirc except shit on their Walls. That lasted like 6 years before iphone saturation and it wasn't the "social media" people complain about now. but it was fucking social media with 1,000,000,000k users.

I meant the 2004-2010 facebook that wasn't just proles/boomers/Scum. like where you just Poked chicks and stuff. no one associated that with mental illness or whatever they say now.
sure it obviously wasn't as bad but it was the beginning of the end, the oversharing and self-absorption it inspired and later social media platforms reinforced

Zoomers are the problem. Or people using it from age 10 onwards. Iirc millennials just put their profiles on private. In like 2009, before instagram, millennials had sort of dropped Facebook in terms of actually using it. I had like 1000k friends but the poasts were coming from like 3 mentally ill ppl over and over again and the phenotype expression pics weren’t proliferating very quickly.

We had a good thread about this recently iirc
Part of it is that we were younger and there was still so much of The Unknown. But The Unknown has shrunk for everyone now imho. An reasonably sharp 18 year old kid today has already been exposed to basically Everything. There is no longer any Secret Knowledge or even anything that seems like it could be Secret Knowledge
Kids learn that Phenotype Is Everything and Society Has Fallen and No One Cares About You and Only Money Matters while they are still children. It's brutal.

I think that many people value The Unknown, but it doesn't even exist anymore as an option. The world is now Totally Global and Homogeneous and The Matrix has permeated everything
I don't think it's fair to bash normies for doing The Same Things when that's all there is anymore

occasionally i will still visit a place, or a bookstore, or a music store that has that feeling like you've stepped through a portal to 1993 and are discovering something strange and different.
don't think it can be curated, it has to be organic. and assume the last of these places will soon disappear. feel bad for the kids who will never know it.
obviously requires a certain physical and mental isolation, not just remoteness from other people but lets say a book store proprietor who is so out of touch he hasn't spent any time uploading his inventory to The Machine so it can be efficiently priced and the gems shipped off to a PO Box in Chicago.

instead of reddit you had message boards on disparate servers for whatever your particular intellectual rabbit hole. sometimes they would be hidden in the site map of a much wider www site so only the most discerning autists would find that small text link that reads "Discuss" and be transported to a little corner of the galaxy to frolic among Liberal Artists.
