To me it's just like I've never seen a band that shitty get so famous overnight. They literally have no good songs, not even a big single.

It's funny because I think Sombr is a talentless hack and he's up to the gills in industry plantdom. The difference is this dude is basically going to try and become the next Harry Styles. He's utterly shameless and he will obviously convert to being a pop star, and in pop no one gives a single fuck if everything about the artist is manufactured.

But in rock it's different if you're inauthentic you're getting called out fast. This is why Greta Van Fleet never got big. People could tell it was fake from the beginning

So when there's any motion in the space it's going to cause a stir. There's obviously a lot of jealousy out there from people who wanted to be famous and didn't get it. That's a big part of rock culture is whining about people who get famous. A lot of butt hurt guitarists crying about it. No doubt.

I think Rick Beato said it best about their viral marketing team: they have 20 other bands signed that didn't get famous, so there had to be something special about Geese. For whatever reason they are resonating with people. So is Angine de Poitrine.

That being said I think the main issue with Geese is that it's musically quite boring and unoriginal. There's an episode of Trackstar where the host plays Geese for Billy Corgan and tells him 'this is the next big thing in Rock' and Billy diplomatically nods and goes, "haha, yeah, haha" without spelling it out. You can tell he didn't like it from the clip. I don't like it either. The fact that dcpoast thinks it's great is a surefire sign that it sucks given his track record of loving shit that's terrible going back decades.

So yes you're right a lot of butt hurt rock musicians who never maed it are crying about some young guys living their dream. But at the same time I think virtually any listener knows it's actually just shit and it IS a head scratcher why THIS particular band blew up and not any of the other equally shitty, indistinguishable terrible modern American rock bands. It could have been anyone if this is how low the bar is.

Some of the worst songwriting I've ever heard in my entire life. What's crazy is this is the second time there's been an overhyped rock act with no talent, after Greta Van Fleet. It's always these young guys trying to be cool and bring back rock and roll but they have no melodies, chops, or licks worth remembering. Rock is really dead. To think that the last rock bands with original songs that will be remembered or have any staying power were alt J and the first two Tame Impala records before Kevin transitioned into synth pop. We've never had a time with such little rock of relevance.

In the same breath MCR just signed a massive administration deal with Warner Brothers to syndicate their music and put their songs in movies and commercials and repackage the product to boost revenue. Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails just had massive tours. Coldplay is the biggest band in the world by touring revenue. Metallica is playing The Sphere. The Eagles are still huge. Oasis is playing like 9 consecutive shows in Manchester alone.

It's absolutely nuts that rock is still beloved and powerful and worshipped by audiences but people have completely 100% forgotten how to make it.
