Apparently the surviving stuff is lecture notes he used to teach at the lyceum. He had finished works that cicero talked about which apparently were excellent stylistically, but they didn't survive. Parts of it are a pain to get through, because he makes a lot of references to presocratics and other greek philosophers, and some of the stuff sounds silly and outdated. But the ideas he gets into are extraordinary and laid down the groundwork for the problems that still exist today and are open in modern metaphysics. Sometimes when the physics gets people focus too much on the refutation of his ideas by the mechanists, and try to make his thought sound outdated and silly, but it really isn't.
