I saw it again for the first time since its original theatrical release. My opinion of this movie improved substantially. It went from about a D to a B+. For some reason the elements that bothered me before weren't as bad. It's obviously not as good as Pulp Fiction. The writing isn't that tight, the dialog not as memorable, the plot non-existent and the pacing molasses. That being said it's got some funny moments. For a film that's more of a hang than a narrative you could do worse. I also think it's better than Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight. It's his best since Inglorious Basterds.
I think OUATIH could really have been improved by Quentin hiring some joke writers. There were too many meh punchlines where the whole setup is there and it's supposed to be hilarious but it's just whatever. He needs a partner to improve the script.

I don't think it needs any punching up. There's enough comic relief. It's an homage to Hollywood epics of yesteryear. A love letter. Which, of course, fits the whole theme of the movie. Times change and there's beauty in that, but we can still look back nostalgically through a brand new experience.

It was beautiful but also self indulgent, plodding, overly long, and the writing and humor wasn't as tight as it could have been. I definitely liked it more than the first time I saw it. I could get into it. It was like Inherent Vice with extra slow pacing, which, ironically, made it better than Inherent Vice. But let's not overinflate it. There were plenty of dud gags and unnecessary moments.

I thought it was a masterpiece. And I'm not just inflating it because I'm a Tarantino fan. I thought Django, Hateful and Inglorious were mid. It's just my opinion, man.

i love this movie and i really liked it when i saw it in the theater. for some bizarre reason, my older son (interstate 69) really likes it too and wants to watch it when his mom is out with friends or whatever.
i put it up there with reservoir dogs, pulp fiction and jackie brown.

Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and Jackie Brown are obviously GOATED. Basterds is decent but imperfect. This is the best one since then but not as good as the 90s peak.

this.
i've talked to a lot of WW2 vets. none of them ever mentioned kikes. let alone hinted that every day when they woke up in europe everyone was running around obsessed with kikeshit.
hundreds of thousands of people died for a cause, and the entire reason has been hijacked by some random uninvolved crooks.

The third act is boring and retarded. The first act has almost nothing to do with the rest of the movie. There's lots of forgettable plodding segments. The film pretty much drags for long periods and no one wants to watch the last 30 minutes.

i felt like it was QT doing a home movie with all his movie friends over a weekend at his summer home, with inside jokes and one-take scenes from his veteran actors Pitt and that 'good egg' guy, and Madame Dunham who probly ad libbed her entire part, but thats just me.

It gets better with age because its a period piece. The shittier America gets the more fondly we look back at 60's LA. 1969 was by far the most interesting year in the last century. Also, on first watch I think we all thought Leo was the main guy to pay attention to but Brad Pitt's character is far more interesting on rewatch.

The style of movies and how they were made was so much better back then too. I find myself watching 80's and 90's action movies that I haven't watched in a while. No CGI, unrealistic female protagonists, or stupid love triangles. Bourne Identity, Patriot Games, Terminator, The Fugitive, US Marshalls, Executive Decision, The Hunt for Red October etc. All so much more enjoyable than the Michael Bay style slop.

Ofs. There's no question.
T2 Judgement Day is probably the perfect example of a director just giving the audience 100% of what the average person wants in a two hour flick. The plot is simple. The actors are cool. The visuals, spectacular. The emotions, simplistic and easy to understand. Wham bam thank you mam.
Nowadays we have people bitching on Twitter that James Hetfield won't make a political speech about Palestine during a rock concert. It's all gone to shit. Everything will just keep getting worse.

cr. i heard from a boomer uncle that it totally nailed some cultural vibe stuff in a way he hadn't seen on film in a while. and QT born 1963 didn't really live through this, so it was just painstakingly assembled

I liked the book way better than the movie. I thought PTA should not have tried to copy it scene for scene. I thought that was the wrong approach. It's information overload. I thought he should have done an adaptation like LOTR where you make the best movie regardless of the source material.
In a one for one comparison between OUATIH and IV, Tarantino has way, way better pacing.
