If somebody starts talking to me in another language I can figure it out in about 5 minutes. But staring at words on a page it's like the magic is gone. The idea of talking to someone out loud irl in a foreign language is painful to me and kills the magic. Dead languages are where it's at, learning a language to get access to a huge corpus of some of the best written texts is worth it.
